How to plan your wedding using Pinterest

Anyone who has planned a wedding will tell you it isn’t easy! There are color palettes, florals, and vendors to choose. There are timelines, contracts, and orders to coordinate. There are locations, dates, and times to communicate. It truly can be an overwhelming experience.

For today’s blog post, we’re going to focus on the design aspect of wedding planning: colors, florals, venues, aesthetic, and every detail that makes your wedding uniquely you and your relationship.

If you’re anything like me, you probably think most wedding styles are beautiful. There’s the classically traditional green and white, the bohemian neutrals, the mid-century modern bold colors, and the seasonal themes. Each are uniquely beautiful and fun in their own ways. But how can you even begin to decide which vibe is yours when you love them all??

Or maybe you don’t even know where to begin. Maybe you’ve never even thought about what you want your wedding to look like. Maybe you don’t even know what needs to be taken into consideration and planned in advance. How do you pick a theme when you didn’t even know there was such a thing?

Whether you have a lot of wedding ideas or none whatsoever, there is a wonderful and free resource available at your fingertips: Pinterest.

Three ways Pinterest can help you plan your wedding

Pinterest can be an amazing way for you to truly hone in on the wedding of your dreams. From floral arrangements, dresses, wedding party attire, and miscellaneous decor, Pinterest has every idea you could imagine and so much more!

Here are three ways Pinterest can help you decide how your wedding is going to look:

  1. Visually narrow down the wedding styles that you like

Start simple. Search “wedding” or “Seattle wedding” or “Santa Barbara weddings” and see what pops up! The more weddings you look at and the more styles you see, the easier it will be for you to focus in on the ones that you like. You can then create a Pinterest board to save the weddings that you like. This board will soon be able to give you a clear overview of the styles you’re more drawn to—from there, you can pull the images out of Pinterest and create mood boards and color palettes like the samples I’ve created below. These collages will help you identify the florals that you’re drawn to, the aesthetic that you’re leaning towards, and give you ideas for your own wedding!

  2. Find potential wedding vendors

Don’t know where to begin looking for vendors? Try Pinterest! If you see a wedding florist or wedding planner sharing weddings that you just LOVE, maybe they could help you bring your dream wedding to life. This is a great way to see potential wedding vendor’s portfolios, get a sense of their personalities, and decide if they might be someone you’d be interested in working with. Cause if you like what they’re already creating, you’re more than likely going to like what they create for you!

Pro tip: The internet is a big place—make sure the vendors you’re looking at are local to you or are willing to travel! When searching for vendors on Pinterest, be sure to use key words for locations that are going to be specific to your venue. For example, if you’re getting married in Seattle, search “Washington State weddings” or “Seattle elopement” or “Olympic National Park wedding.” This way you make sure you’re looking at vendors you know you can work with.

  3. Communicate your ideas

Sometimes it’s hard to put into words the styles and vibes that we like. Having a Pinterest board can not only be incredibly helpful to you, especially when it comes to picking out a wedding theme, but it can also be super beneficial to your wedding vendors who are going to be looking to you for guidance. We may be the experts in our fields, but it helps us to know what you love, that way we can work to bring your ideas to life.

Feel to share your Pinterest board with your vendors!

Pinterest can help get you started

While I would never recommend using only Pinterest to plan your wedding, it is a great place to start. It can help give you ideas, find styles that you like, find potential vendors to bring you ideas to life, and succinctly communicate your ideas. Whether you’re eloping on the bluffs of Santa Barbara or in a forest in the Pacific North West, Pinterest has ideas for any kind of wedding you could imagine!
